When your crop storages goes into the negatives it is referred to as “dearth of crop.” Having your crop levels drop into the negatives can result in either your troops starving to death or you wasting all of your time trying to get your crop levels back into the positives. So what triggers dearth of crop? Users often experience dearth of crop when being attacked by a more experienced member who ends up raiding their crops.
Another common cause of dearth of crop has to do with users focusing too much of their time on building troops or developing buildings at the beginning of Travian. What ends up happening as a result is the crop levels cannot keep up with the production of troops/buildings thereby dropping the crop levels into the negatives. I always recommend to players who are starting a new game to use their beginner’s protection wisely and focus on developing crop levels at the beginning to ensure they have a sufficient amount of crops to support the development of their troops or buildings. At the very least you should try to always maintain a crop per hour rate of 50.
Travian - NPC Trading
An NPC Merchant allows one to trade any amount of resources for other resources at a 1:1 ratio. Each time you use the NPC Merchant it will cost you 3 gold, which is only available for purchase for Travian Plus/Gold members. For instance, say you had the following resources:
1000-Wood 1000-Clay 1000-Iron 1000-Crop = 4000 resources
Using 3 gold you can trade your 4000 resources however you like just so long as the resource type amounts equals to 4000. For example, if you needed 1750 wood you could exchange your resources as follows:
1750-Wood 1000-Clay 1000-Iron 250-Crop = 4000 resources
If you’d like to distribute your resources as evenly as possible when NPC trading you can use the “Distribute Resources at (1/2)” option. This option will automatically prefill the resource fields to ensure that that all you resources are as evenly distributed as possible.
